HORACE JOHN PEERS
Horace (John) Peers was the 3rd child of the marriage and was born on 6th July 1902, probably at 77 Floodgate Street, Deritend, Birmingham. He was baptized 23 July at St John the Baptist church. As the family increased he would have moved with the family to 251 Yardley Road, South Yardley, Birmingham, (formerly known as 4 Clarence Villas).
From March 1919 until May 1919 (aged 18) he was a grave digger at Yardley Cemetery, Birmingham until laid of through lack of work. On 20-5-1919 he enlisted as a private in the 'Machine Gun Corp'. He was psted to the MGC in Grantham. He was then posted to No 1 depot Battalion at Belton Park. On 9-3-1920 he was posted to X company, Chatham and on 11-3-1920 he embarked at Dover for Calais. On 1-4-21 he had a voluntary transfer to the 2nd Battalion - The Black Watch Regiment - authority CMC RHine Army. On 19-5-1926 he was transferred to the Reservists (identity No. 27) for 7 years. On 19-5-1939 he was discharged from the Reserves with a total service of 20 years. It is understood that he re-enlisted into the Black Watch 16-10-41 during the war period and finally demobbed on the 24-2-1946. On returning back to civvy life he became a 'Jack of all trades' until he fell and went to hospital. He died of his injuries on 30-06-1956 aged 56 at Barnet General Hospital, London.
Horace married his first wife Hilda (Mary) May on 21-06-1923 at Binstead, Alton, Hants and they had 2 sons, Horace (Albert) and Fredrick(Arthur). Horace (generally known as Harry) was born on 25-07-1923 at Farnham, later moving to Cheriton, and Fredrick was born 22-03-1925 at Alton. Frederick died in February 1999 in Newham. Horace (Albert)s 1st marriage was to Jane Lloyd and Fredericks 1st marriage was to Gwen Payne. (see Horace (Albert) Peers info).
Horace John's second marriage was to Grace (Hilda) Poyser and they had two sons, George (Lawrence) Poyser and Raymond (John) Peers.
